Nabanno: Where Bangladesh
Lives in Every Bite
In the heart of Jackson Heights—on the lively 73rd Street known as “Little Bangladesh”—stands Nabanno, a restaurant that’s more than a business. It’s a love letter to Bangladesh, a tribute to heritage, and a bridge connecting generations of Bangladeshis to the flavors that raised them. Named after the traditional harvest festival that celebrates the arrival of new rice into the home, Nabanno carries the spirit of joy, gratitude, and abundance in every dish.
Behind this heartfelt venture is Dr. Muhammad Kader, CIP—a name that resonates across continents. Born in the narrow Duri Angul Lane of Old Dhaka, Dr. Kader rose to become a successful entrepreneur in New York, receiving the prestigious U.S. Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award from President Joe Biden, and being honored among America’s 40 Under 40 most talented business leaders. He also holds the title of CIP (Commercially Important Person) from the Government of Bangladesh—the country’s highest recognition for business excellence.
Yet with all his success, Dr. Kader never forgot his roots. He still remembers the midnight kacchi from Nanna in Chawk Bazar, the unmistakable aroma of Haji’s biryani in Bongshal, the lassi from Beauty in Kolta Bazar, and the mishti from Madina Hotel. Growing up in the heart of Dhaka, where food was served with love and laughter, left an imprint on his soul. That memory fuels Nabanno—a place where non-resident Bangladeshis and visitors alike can taste the authenticity of Dhakaiya cuisine, made by chefs who themselves are sons of Puran Dhaka.
But the story doesn’t end there. Dr. Kader’s maternal roots go deeper—to Cumilla, the birthplace of the world’s finest roshomalai. Inspired by his grandfather’s homeland, he brings that same soft, creamy, melt-in-the-mouth roshomalai to Nabanno’s table. It’s not just dessert—it’s nostalgia in every spoonful, served with pride and tradition.
Here at Nabanno, you won’t just eat. You’ll remember. You’ll feel the breeze over Bengal’s rice fields, the warmth of your grandmother’s kitchen, and the laughter of a Dhakaiya evening snack. Every grain of rice, every drop of lassi, every sweet bite is prepared with care and memory.
